EntoGreen

EntoGreen, a small company dedicated to insect rearing and processing as a nutritional source for both animals and plants. It has the goal of reducing the food footprint and drive the agri-food sector to a more sustainable production process. This company was founded in 2014 and since then have been working in close collaboration with several Portuguese and international research centers and other private and public institutions,

Our scope is to bring novel and alternative nutrition to animal feed, and to contribute to the agri- food economy and sustainability. At EntoGreen, we are both pensioned by agriculture and animals, however, recent events took us to promote the use of insects and to contribute to the available knowledge in this field. This way, we have been able to approve several projects and to develop our know-how and technology in insect rearing and processing. In collaboration with others we have tested insect products in chicken and pig feed and in several fish species feed.

All this market and technical validation prompted us to obtain financial support and to start the creation of a full-scale production plant, capable of converting several thousands of tons of organic residues into insect protein, insect oil and organic fertilizer. Although this plant is being built in Portugal, it is possible to be replicated in other parts of the globe, and EntoGreen has already started the evaluation of this possibility in regions like Scotland, Spain or Brazil.
